Augustin Teboul
2015
The Franco-German design duo Augustin Teboul is known for its exclusively black designs. Their first joint collection, Cadavre Exquis, is named after the surrealist game wherein the moment of chance plays just as important a role in the creation of works as a planned approach – a principle that the two designers also exploited for their designs on the border between prêt-à-porter and haute couture. All of Augustin Teboul’s collections share a mystical, fragile, and at the same time very self-confident tone, inspired by craftsmanship from a wide range of traditions. Elaborate staging is also part of each collection: surreal worlds full of dark mysticism and melancholy.
The Museum Angewandte Kunst showed a spider-like creature as part of the exhibition “Outside in the Dark: Moving on after fashion” in 2013. A multi-legged doll, it is dressed in a carefully chosen selection from various Augustin Teboul collections. Inspiration came from the spider installation Maman by artist Louise Bourgeois and Hans Bellmer’s doll objects.
Annelie Augustin and Odély Teboul met in 2010 while studying fashion design in Paris. They moved to Berlin and worked together until 2016 before going their separate ways.
