Yang Yujin, style name Gengsheng, was a flower and bird painter from Suzhou and also skilled in figure painting. When the Taiping army occupied Suzhou in 1853, he moved to Shanghai and lived there in the Yu Garden. This is a beautiful painting in the xieyi style for the Chrysanthemum Festival on the Ninth of the Ninth. Even today, exhibitions of the most diverse chrysanthemum varieties are organized in China on this day, which people visit and admire with a connoisseur's eye.
