Daoist Pantheon
19. Jh.
The painting is a fragment from a larger composition. It is heavily cropped at the top and on both sides. The figure in the centre is probably the Great Jade Emperor (Yuhuang Dadi), the supreme deity of popular Daoism. Flanking him are two other deities with nimbus, forming a trinity with him. In the centre below is another deity. On either side are a row of assistant figures. Female deities are depicted above the Jade Emperor, the figures above are cropped.
The artistic quality of the painting is limited. It was probably produced in the 19th century at the earliest for popular worship in a Daoist temple.
