Guo Xi
probably 19th century
Guo Xi was the great master of monumental landscape painting of the Northern Song Dynasty (960–1126). The mountain massif on the right is reminiscent of his style with its cloud-shaped rock forms and 'crab claw' trees. Also, the misty atmosphere in the background of the painting is reminiscent of Guo Xi’s paintings. The Frankfurt album leaf is though a very late interpretation of his style and shows characteristics of literati painting of the Qing dynasty.
