It is noticeable that the artist's signature is missing after the inscription, which is extremely unusual. Moreover, the three artist's seals can also be found in unusual places, i.e. where normally the collector's seals are placed. This alone shows that it cannot be an original work by the artist. But the painting is not all that convincing artistically either. It was probably painted in the 17th, perhaps only in the 19th century. The two-dimensional depiction of the rocks and mountains with a very dry brush and light ink is reminiscent of Wen Zhengming's style. It shows the typical literary style of this great master of the Ming Dynasty.
