Psalter
3rd quarter 13th century
The psalter is the oldest book in the Linel Collection (alongside with acc. no. L.M.20). It is preceded by four miniatures, reduced to a minimum of pictorial expression, depicting the Annunciation of Mary, the Birth and Crucifixion of Christ and Christ on the Throne. Framed in red, the picture-height, haloed figures are pictured against a dark blue background. The blue, red, brown, and green coloured garments are structured using a few black lines and form a crenelated pattern at their edges. The style and iconography indicate the third quarter of the thirteenth century and show signs of the influence of Saxonian art between 1220 and 1250.
