Book of hours according to the custom of the Roman church
2nd half 15th century
The Book of Hours contains the Calendar, Hours of the Holy Spirit and Hours of the Cross, Mass and Hours of the Virgin (picture of Mary and the Annunciation), Prayers to Mary and the Penitential Psalms (picture of the Last Judgement), as well as the Litany and requiem (picture of the funeral mass). The manuscript is of a relatively simple design and manufacture, clearly more a Book of Hours for use rather than for representational purposes. The style of the figures, composition and colouration of the miniatures, points to the Netherlands in the third quarter of the fifteenth century.
