Heart
Otto Künzli
1985
Otto Künzli, born in Zurich in 1948, who created this heart, is constantly rethinking the function and meaning of jewelry in his conceptual designs. One of the most important international representatives of art jewelry, he works at the interface between fine art and goldsmithing. Künzli broke new ground for the jewelry movement of the 1960s in Europe, and from 1991 to 2014, he held the Chair of Goldsmithing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.
With this heart-shaped brooch, the jewelry artist questions the minimalist form and symbolic aesthetics of what has become a global symbol of love. The lacquered surface of the red heart shines flawlessly. It is oversized for a brooch, but still weighs very little. Heart encourages the wearer to embark on an aesthetic experience.
